| | Overview
of Single Subject Designs
The five data graphing strategies listed at the left, are sometimes referred to as
"single subject research designs." Applied researchers, particularly in the area of applied behavior analysis, have used them for
over 30 years. Only recently has their utility in the classroom been shown. Basically they are used to evaluate the effects of an intervention on an individual (ie.
a single subject). Single subject researchers look for real or
"applied" gains in the lives of the people they are studying as opposed to statistical differences.
