The student is not showing progress on the prompt levels

This statement particularly applies to students with moderate to severe disabilities.  Teachers will often use prompting levels (like a least prompt hierarchy) in the instruction of these students.  Data is taken on which level of prompt is required to get a student to perform a desired behavior.

Potential Remedy

The teacher must ensure reliability in the delivery of the prompt.  This includes ensuring consistency in the prompts.  In observing teachers, your instructor has often noted that teachers will use a wide variety of verbal prompts relative to a single behavior for a particular student.  This approach is very confusing to the student.  Consistency in the delivery of the prompt, down to the latency in delivery is crucial.
