A mobile work crew (MWC) is a group of individuals who work together to perform a task in the community.  Work crews might do a variety of jobs including lawn maintenance, janitorial jobs, or painting.  Some people refer to a MWC as "a workshop on wheels."

Using our evaluative criteria,

Workers do make minimum wage unless special arrangements have been made through the Department of Labor for them to make less than minimum wage.
Workers are performing socially valuable work or service.
Workers are not integrated.  When was the last time you felt integrated with a lawn crew working in your neighborhood or on campus.  As stated above, integration wise, the mobile work crew is a "workshop on wheels."

However, the MWC is a step toward community based employment away from sheltered workshops.  Individuals who are not used to being in the community are given the opportunity to be in community which results in the gaining of a whole new set of skills and experiences they may not have had before.  The MWC is therefore a positive step toward community based employment.
